Does I Corinthians 16:1-3 Prove Sunday Is The Biblical Day Of Worship?

Does I Corinthians 16: 1-3 prove the day of worship was changed from Sabbath (7th day of the week) to Sunday? “As you know, Sabbath worship is one of the most difficult things for people to accept and believe. The world at large, and even most professing Christians, will try to give every excuse and “explanation” they can come up with to deny that we are to keep God’s Sabbath, which by the way, is the Seventh Day of the week. It corresponds with our Saturday. One of the Scriptures they will twist and pervert to try to “get their way” is found in the apostle Paul’s writings. (First of all, Notice in, II Peter 3:16: “-In which are some things hard to understand, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.”)

So let’s look at I Corinthians 16:1-3, to see what Paul was saying to us in these verses: 1. “Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given order to the churches of Galatia, even so do ye. 2. Upon the first day of the week let everyone of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come. 3. And when I come, whomsoever ye shall approve by your letters, them will I send to bring your liberality unto Jerusalem.”

Four Points To Help You See The Truth About These Verses

  1. The “collection” was not for the ministry, but for “the saints”. (Numbers 18:24 tells us the tithes went to the Levitical Priesthood in the Old Testament and Hebrews 7:12 shows the Priesthood of the New Testament: “--being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law (of Who received the tithe).” The tithe now goes to the Melchisedec Priesthood which is of Jesus Christ and the true Christian ministry (Ver. 17).

  2. Individuals were to “lay by in store” at his particular place, not at Church. Also it was a lot of work! It required “gatherings”. What were those gatherings?

  3. It was foodstuffs (fruit) for those poor starving saints! For proof, turn to another Scripture: Romans 15:25 “But now I go unto Jerusalem to minister unto the saints. 26. For it hath pleased them of Macedonia and Archaia to make a certain contribution for the poor saints which are at Jerusalem. 27. It hath pleased them verily; and their debtors they are. For if the Gentiles have been made partakers of their spiritual things, their duty is also to minister unto them in carnal (physical) things. 28. When therefore I have performed this, and have sealed to them this fruit, I will come by you into Spain.”

  4. It took several men to carry it: “--them will I send to bring your liberality unto Jerusalem.”

Oh yes! Satan is very clever, very subtle; and through false ministers and teachers, he has succeeded in deceiving the whole world. (Rev. 12:9). But thanks be to God and with the help of the Holy Spirit, we can see through his deceptions. We know which day is the true Sabbath! But we have to search out the Truth from God’s Word, “---whether these things were so” (Acts 17:11).
