Are You Important To God?

Just how interested is God in the details of your life. How much does He care what happens to you?

Most of us have little doubt that God will help when we are in serious trouble, in a life-threatening situation. But, what about those bothersome day-to-day problems that we are confronted with?

Is God so busy in keeping the galaxies in place, monitoring supernovas and black holes, commanding angelic hosts, taking care of the big things, that He doesn’t have time for these small things?

Here on this planet, God is overseeing the course of nations, guiding and directing His Work, helping those of His children who are in serious need. So does he really care, does He have time to care, whether we get a good night’s sleep or whether the mechanic solves the problem with our car, or even if your sniffles goes away?

Could this be one of the reasons some lack faith, whether in small matters or big ones? Is it possible that members of God’s Church don’t grasp the extent of His concern; that we do not realize how greatly God is interested in our personal lives?

Back to the original question: How much does God care about you? To get a better understanding; let’s look at this question from God’s perspective, rather than ours.

If you are a true Christian, a member of God’s true church, you didn’t just stumble into the truth. For those of us who have been in the Church for quite some time, it wasn’t an accident or a stroke of luck that we happened to be turning our radio or television dial and came across the old World Tomorrow Program, or we found a copy of the old Plain Truth magazine, or some of the booklets that the church put out that you and I began to understand. The scripture says that no man can come to me except the Father draw him (John 6:44). And, it is probably no accident that some of you come across our website while searching for Biblical truths.

God the Father, the Supreme Being, the One who is above all, who knows all, who rules all, looks down at the hearts of individual human beings as He has the power to do.

“The Lord is in his holy temple, the Lord’s throne is in heaven: his eyes behold, his eyelids try (or test) the children of men” (Ps. 11:4).

And yet we know that millions or billions of people God has left in darkness. But you He chose. Individually, by name, your name was mentioned in the heavens, pronounced by God the Father in the hearing of angelic beings and Jesus Christ. God said: “I want (your name) to be one of my firstborn.”

It was your eyes that God opened, or possibly may be opening. God has selected you to be one of His children now, and is in the process of selecting others, possibly some of you reading this article, whereas the vast majority will be given their opportunity at a later time.

We know, that it is God’s purpose in creating humanity to reproduce Himself. God wants to bring into being other members of the God Family. And that will be the supreme accomplishment of His creative skill.

If you have been given understanding, then God is working with you. “For we are his workmanship (or creation), created in Christ Jesus unto (or for) good works, which God hath before ordained (or prepared) that we should walk in them” (Eph. 2:10).

Now compare the skill and care with which God is forming and finishing you with that of a master potter, painter, sculptor, architect or diamond cutter at work on a cherished project.

When God is fashioning one of His masterpieces, He is infinitely more concerned with each brush or chisel stroke, with each delicate touch applied to the clay, than any human has ever dreamed of being!

God is concerned with anything and everything no matter how seemingly small or insignificant that could in any way affect the quality of the final work of art. When God does something, He does it well – in fact, perfectly. That is why Christ said in Matthew 5:48, “that our destiny is that of becoming perfect.”

When God has accomplished His will in us what will happen? “That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing: but that it should be holy and without blemish” (Eph. 5:27).

“For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren” (Rom. 8:29).

Now can you and I begin to comprehend why God is interested in more than just the major events in our life? Why He is deeply interested in every circumstance that may influence how our character turns out?

Notice I Kings 6:7 “And the house, when it was in building, was built of stone made ready before it was brought thither, so that there was neither hammer nor axe nor any tool of iron heard in the house, while it was in building.”

In other words, individual stones of Gods’ house were fashioned and shaped to fit perfectly before they were brought together and assembled. And yet the stones all fit together harmoniously.

Are we now seeing the analogy? You and I are individual stones, being fully prepared as God’s spiritual Temple. We are being fashioned now to fit perfectly and harmoniously in the place being prepared for us in God’s Kingdom. And you can read about this in John 14:3.

This concept explains a lot. Have you ever had a trial for which you could not understand the reason? “Why did this happen to me”? You prayed about it, but God did not immediately deliver you. He just let the trouble continue for a while, and maybe for a long while! But why?

We don’t have to know the full answer in this life; we must remember that God is the architect, He knows what shape each stone needs to make it fit perfectly into His overall design.

God knows how to knock off the rough edges, how to smooth and polish the surface (for what purpose) “in whom all the building fitly (or being joined together) framed together grown into an holy temple in the Lord” (Eph. 2:21).

What you and I must do is have trust and confidence that God knows what He is dong, and He does.

On some of these TV commercials we have seen some little boy or girl standing amid signs of extreme poverty. Their clothing is tattered; dirt is smudged on their faces and feet. But they’re still grinning nonetheless.

Sometimes at the bottom of the screen, is the statement: “I know I’m worth something, cause God don’t make no junk.”

We are called and chosen by God, and we are worth much to Him – God has invested a lot for us. We, the members of His Church occupy the most prominent place in His attention. God is forming, molding, shaping, fashioning us into His highest workmanship. And God does not make junk. Not one thing is hidden from God, not one thing can be kept from Him.

Now to illustrate God’s Omniscience, let’s think for a moment about what was involved n the slaying of the firstborn of the Egyptians at the time of the Exodus.

Now, for God to know whom to smite, He had to know who all the firstborn were. That means God had to know the order of birth of every individual living in Egypt, from Pharaoh who sat on his throne, to the captive who was in the dungeon.

“And it came to pass, that at midnight the Lord smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh that sat on his throne unto the firstborn of the captive that was in the dungeon, and all the firstborn of cattle” (Ex. 12:29).

God also knew the birth order of the beasts of all the animals in Egypt under the death sentence. No telling how old some of these animals were or under what circumstance they were born. God knew which ones were the first to have come out of their mother’s wombs.

Now think for a moment; do we think that He doesn’t know the intimate details of our life any less than those of beast in ancient Egypt? What about the life and death of a single sparrow? It didn’t stretch the imagination of Jesus Christ that God could be aware of the well-being of a tiny bird (Matt. 10:29).

“Do not fear therefore” Christ is saying to us: don’t be anxious and worried about your life: “You are more value than many sparrows” (v. 31).

But why are you more important? – because we are a potential immortal member of the God Family. We are of such intense interest to God that “the very hairs of our head are all numbered (v. 30).

Is it reasonable to think that God could be concerned about how many hairs are on our head and at the same time be indifferent to details of our day-to-day life? God is concerned about anything and everything that could affect our growth and development.

Several years ago, a man and his wife living in the eastern United States were considering whether or not to move across the country to an area where the husband could use his skills to better advantage.

This was a major decision. With several children, their schooling was involved. There were friends, and relatives to leave behind. Plus the headache of packing and moving, pulling up roots and settling down in a new environment thousands of miles away.

But what really stunned this couple was when they mentioned to one who claimed to be a minister that they were considering such a move and trying to find out what God’s will was; this was his answer -  “Frankly, I don’t think God cares one way or the other.”

Now you contrast that answer with what James wrote: “Go to now, ye that say, today or tomorrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain. Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time, and then vanishes away. For that ye ought to say, if the Lord will, we shall live, and do this or that” (James 4:13-15).

Why be concerned about God’s will if God doesn’t care about such matters? But the fact is, God does care. If anything is a problem or a potential problem to any of us (that is God’s children), He cares.

Are you familiar with the scripture that says: “The righteous cry, and the Lord hears, and delivers them out of many of their truly serious troubles, but the rest of their problems they must struggle with on their own strength?”

Well, there is no such scripture; but there is this verse: “The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles” (Ps. 23:17).

All their troubles mean just that, big ones, and small ones, in between ones-- all of them. Then of course, we must do our part – then God steps in and supplies everything we lack to give us victory and make things work out right. “Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all” (v. 19).

The point is this: anyone who doesn’t take advantage of God’s willingness to help in every situation is missing out on a lot of peace of mind. If something is bothering you, it is a problem, not matter how insignificant it seems. And no problem is too small to take to God, nor is any problem too big.

We do not need to face life’s problems by ourselves: “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Ps. 46:1). “Commit your way to the Lord, or as the Hebrew states: Roll your way upon the Lord” (Ps. 37:5).

Just take all your problems, all your trials, your weaknesses, shortcomings, all that you want to change, gather it all together, roll it all up and lay it on the Eternal, His back is strong and His shoulders are broad. Trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass.

We need to take advantage of the tremendous privilege that is ours as one of God’s chosen  “Casting all your care upon Him for He cares for you” (I Peter 5:7).

God really does care about you, share your life with Him and see. “Oh, magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt His name together. I sought the Lord, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears. Oh taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who trusts in Him” (Ps. 34:3-4, 8). Yes, you are important to God!
