From the moment it was published in 1818, Frankenstein, a classic horror story, has been enormously popular and continuously in print in many languages. The story has inspired plays, poems, parodies as well as other stories, novels, and more than 40 movies. The monster derives from the novel by Mary Shelley and is the result of man’s tinkering with nature and his untamed desire to create and apply his knowledge.
The name of the scientist is sometimes wrongly used as that of the monster itself, and hence for any monstrous creation. Frankenstein is sometimes compared with politics, nuclear science, genetic engineering and other agents of change to warn against experimenting with things we don’t understand.
Germany was totally defeated, and the Nazi regime brought down. Its leaders were tried for crimes against humanity at Nuremberg, the former site of Nazi propaganda triumphs. Hitler escaped trial and execution by committing suicide in his Berlin bunker at the end of the war. German cities were in ruins from a massive bombing campaign.
Many of the Axis countries or supporters were required to pay restitution for damages incurred during the war. Not Germany! U.S. Secretary of State, George C. Marshall recognized the vacuum created in Europe because of Germany’s defeat. The Russian Bear sit poised to pounce upon the territory and infuse the hideous Communist Doctrine throughout Europe. The United States could not allow that to happen. Germany must be rebuilt. She was the key to maintaining balance throughout Europe and Asia.
The Marshall Plan
The Marshall Plan was a rational effort by the United States aimed at reducing the hunger, homelessness, sickness, unemployment, and political restlessness of the 270 million people in sixteen nations in West Europe at the end of World War II. Marshall Plan funds were not mainly directed toward feeding individuals or building individual houses, schools, or factories, but at strengthening the economic superstructure (particularly the iron-steel and power industries). The program cost the American taxpayers $11,820,700,000 (plus $1,505,100,000 in loans that were repaid over four years) and worked because it was aimed at aiding a well-educated, industrialized people temporarily down but not out. The Marshall Plan significantly magnified their own efforts and reduced the suffering and time West Europe took to recover from the war. The program--whose official title was “European Recovery Program”--aimed at:
expanding European foreign trade;
facilitating European economic cooperation and integration; and
The economic problems in 1947-48 included not only the lack of capital to invest, but also the need for Europeans to overcome a U.S. trade surplus with them so massive as to imperil further trade and to encourage unmanageable inflation. Marshall Plan money helped stimulate the revival of European trade with the world and increased trade among European countries.
Over its four-year life, the Marshall Plan cost the U.S. 2.5 to 5 times the percent of national income as current foreign aid programs. One would need to multiply the program’s $13.3 billion cost by 10 or perhaps even 20 times to have the same impact on the U.S. economy now as the Marshall Plan had between 1948 and 1952. (Most of the money was spent between 1948 and the beginning of the Korean War (June 25, 1950); after June 30, 1951, the remaining aid was folded into the Mutual Defense Assistance Program.)
The Monster Comes Alive
In 1957, the Treaty of Rome was signed by six European countries (France, the Federal Republic of Germany, Italy, Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands) and this established the European Economic Community or the Common Market, which sought to abolish tariffs and trade restrictions between member countries.
In 1959, Britain formed the European Free Trade Area (consisting of seven members, including the Scandinavian countries and Switzerland). Britain attempted to join the EEC in 1961 and 1967, but both applications were vetoed by French President Charles de Gaulle. Following the election of a Conservative government in 1970, Prime Minister Edward Heath re-opened negotiations with the EEC and, in 1973, Britain became a member of the Community, along with the Irish Republic and Denmark.
The drive for deeper integration has continued and the Maastricht Treaty of 1991 - which promotes closer economic and political union through the establishment of an European currency and central bank, and harmonization of defense, foreign and social policies - has resulted in the transformation of the EEC to the European Union (EU). As of May 1, 2004, the European Union consists of twenty-five nations. With a population of over four hundred fifty million the European Union nearly doubles the population of the United States. The Frankenstein monster is alive and beginning to flex her muscles.
“President Bush’s announcement that the US will withdraw 70,000 troops from Europe and Asia represents a long-awaited major adjustment of the American military following the cold war’s end. It’s true that the Pentagon has shuttered dozens of big installations in Europe over the past decade, but US world troop deployments still basically reflect a pattern designed to contain a communist threat that no longer exists”, analysts say.
The sensitivities of allies, plus the military’s traditional resistance to organizational change, have contributed to the persistence of the US presence overseas. The strain of the US deployments in Iraq - plus the pressures of presidential politics and the simple passage of time - may have finally broken that resistance.
“I think overall it’s a good idea,” says Michael O’Hanlon, a military strategy expert at the Brookings Institution in Washington. “It’s good to think strategically about where our forces are, and why.”
Currently the US has about 100,000 troops based in Europe, with about 70 percent of those in Germany. Another 100,000 are scattered throughout Asia and the Pacific, with heavy concentrations in Japan and South Korea.
Over the next decade about 70,000 of those uniformed personnel will be transferred to other home bases, mostly back in the United States, Bush said in a speech to veterans in the swing state of Ohio. Another 100,000 dependents and civilian employees will be similarly relocated.
“Adapting America’s global military posture from facing the Cold War to confronting the less predictable challenges of the War on Terror is simply common sense. Defending Germany is no longer our primary military concern.” -Sen. Elizabeth Dole (R-NC).
The Frankenstein Monster Attacks its Maker
“Then I stood on the sand of the sea. And I saw a beast rising up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and on his horns ten crowns, and on his heads a blasphemous name. 2 Now the beast which I saw was like a leopard, his feet were like the feet of a bear, and his mouth like the mouth of a lion. The dragon gave him his power, his throne, and great authority. 3 And I saw one of his heads as if it had been mortally wounded, and his deadly wound was healed. And the entire world marveled and followed the beast. 4 So they worshiped the dragon who gave authority to the beast; and they worshiped the beast, saying, ‘Who is like the beast? Who is able to make war with him?’ 5 And he was given a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies, and he was given authority to continue for forty-two months. 6 Then he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme His name, His tabernacle, and those who dwell in heaven. 7 It was granted to him to make war with the saints and to overcome them. And authority was given him over every tribe, tongue, and nation. ”(Rev 13:1-8)
Members of God’s Church have long been warned that a colossal giant would emerge in Europe and one day make war with the saints of God. God warned if Israel refused to observe his commandments, statutes, and judgments, a curse would come upon them. One third would be killed in warfare. One third would die in famine, and one third would go into captivity. The Frankenstein that WE CREATED will be that giant!
“Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and talked with me, saying to me, ‘Come, I will show you the judgment of the great harlot who sits on many waters, 2 with whom the kings of the earth committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth were made drunk with the wine of her fornication.’ 3 So he carried me away in the Spirit into the wilderness. And I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast which was full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. 4 The woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls, having in her hand a golden cup full of abominations and the filthiness of her fornication. 5 And on her forehead a name was written: MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. 6 I saw the woman, drunk with the blood of the saints and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus. And when I saw her, I marveled with great amazement. 7 But the angel said to me, "Why did you marvel? I will tell you the mystery of the woman and of the beast that carries her, which has the seven heads and the ten horns. 8 The beast that you saw was, and is not, and will ascend out of the bottomless pit and go to perdition. And those who dwell on the earth will marvel, whose names are not written in the Book of Life from the foundation of the world, when they see the beast that was, and is not, and yet is. 9 Here is the mind which has wisdom: The seven heads are seven mountains on which the woman sits. 10 There are also seven kings. Five have fallen, one is, and the other has not yet come. And when he comes, he must continue a short time. 11 And the beast that was, and is not, is himself also the eighth, and is of the seven, and is going to perdition. 12 The ten horns which you saw are ten kings who have received no kingdom as yet, but they receive authority for one hour as kings with the beast. 13 These are of one mind, and they will give their power and authority to the beast. 14 These will make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, for He is Lord of lords and King of kings; and those who are with Him are called, chosen, and faithful.” (Rev. 17:1-14)
You are watching the final resurrection of the Roman Empire emerge before your very eyes. The European Union will break apart and ten powerful nations will emerge from the seventh head. They will be the eighth, but of the seventh. They will become the Beast that wreaks havoc on the saints of God.
The present Pope (John Paul) will soon pass (he has since passed away since the writing of this article) and a strong charismatic leader will emerge to head the Great Whore and will have strong ties to the Beast Leader. The False Prophet will persuade the Beast to do her bidding. They will inflict the mark of the Beast upon the entire World. Those who refuse will be killed. But soon, the Stone will come from heaven and smite the Beast on its ten toes. The colossal kingdom will be crushed and be blown away by the wind. The Saints will inherit the Kingdom of God and live and reign with Christ forever, and ever.
It is unfortunate that Israel has forgotten her maker. They should have listened when he said, “Learn Not the Way of the Heathen.” Our leaders would have done well to heed the lesson learned by Dr. Frankenstein. Do not tread where you do not understand.
