Have you ever reflected on your own obituary; what it might say about you in the event that you fulfill Hebrews 9:27 “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment. (You younger folks probably don’t dwell on this subject very much, but when you have lived long enough to realize that you are mortal, then you might.)
I’ll admit that I’ve done this on rare occasions, as maybe the Apostle Paul did, when he wrote, II Timothy 4:6 “For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. 7. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. 8. Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love HIS APPEARING.” Paul knew his reward would be given at the return of Christ, along with others, not at his death. But the main point I want to drive home TO US is the positive attitude that Paul had shortly before his death. CAN WE HAVE SIMILIAR THOUGHTS ABOUT OUR CHRISTIAN LIFE as he did? Or would that be considered great vanity on our part? It’s something to think about!
I hope you don’t still retain those old religious ideas that “once saved, always saved” and “I know I’m not perfect, but I met the requirements when I was baptized”. Well, It’s true that none of us are perfect in this flesh, even the Apostle Paul. But are we following other Scriptural instructions AND WARNINGS? For instance, do you still apply this admonition: But grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ”: II Peter 3:18. Many other Scriptures encourage us to LIVE By Biblical principles. If we aren’t “living by every Word of God”,
(Mt. 4:4 & Luke 4:4), Then you may be in danger of:
WRITING YOU OWN OBITUARY, FOR THE SECOND DEATH!
The REALITY of TRUE CHRISTIAN CONDUCT is this:
II Peter 2:20 “For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. 21. For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.
Hebrews 10:26 “For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remains no more sacrifice for sins. 27. But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.”
Hebrews 6:4 “It is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Spirit, 5. And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, 6. If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.” Some sadly have written this obituary by their life style!
HERE IS WHAT WE WANT ON OUR OBITUARY!
Revelation 20:6 “Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him for a thousand years.”
