We are told by Jesus Christ that Christians have a SPIRIT FATHER that we are to pray to. In fact, we are to address our prayers to that FATHER figure: Matthew 6:6 “But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward the openly.” Verse 9 “After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.”
In this outline prayer and in the entire chapter of Matthew 6, the FATHER is mentioned 12 times!
Are Christian men “Male chauvinists”? Do they tend to “look down on women”? Just because we are usually larger and stronger, does this mean we can try to force every one to worship a masculine God? (I’m kidding of course; some “ladies” could master a lot of men, including me.) Do you know that some “feminists” have strong feelings about this issue? Some would like God to be referred to in the feminine gender! I suppose it’s all a part of the “battle of the sexes”.
Before we get into our main topic of, “Our Loving Father in Heaven”, we need to know where we came from:
As you know, we all came from a union of a father and a mother. At one time, we didn’t exist. By the same token , mankind itself did not exist, but was created by a Being called GOD. It’s taken from the Hebrew word “Elohim”, meaning gods, great, mighty or very great. It’s a uni-plural noun like “group”, “family” or perhaps, “team”. We understand it to mean “God Family” from other Scriptures (Eph. 3:15). True Christians, believe what it says in: Genesis 1:26 “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness:--”
And then the woman was made from the rib of Adam to compliment, complete and to help him. This was a perfect creation in both the sexes, and had a marvelous purpose in God’s great Plan. Genesis 1:27 “So God created man in His own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created He them.”
Scripture reveals that we are to ultimately become members of the very God Kind or FAMILY!
The FIRST resurrection, described below, is to be a SPIRITUAL body! I Corinthians 15:49 “And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly. 52. In a moment, in a twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and te dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.”
Romans 8:16 “The Spirit bears witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: 17. And if children then heirs, and joint heirs with Christ; if so be we suffer with Him, that we may be glorified together.” Ver. 29 “For whom He did foreknow, He also did predestinate, to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the FIRSTBORN AMONG MANY BRETHREN.”
I John 3:2 “Beloved, now are we the sons of God, (in a begotten state) and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when He shall appear, WE SHALL BE LIKE HIM; for we shall see Him as He is.”
Ephesians 3:15 “Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named”
With the help of the Holy Spirit, we can join these Scriptures together and see plainly that man’s ultimate destiny is to join the very Family of God! This is why carnal, fleshly minded human beings, CANNOT COMPREHEND THE ENORMITY OF THIS STATEMENT!
I Corinthians 2:9 “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither hath entered into the heart (mind) of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. 10. But God hath revealed them unto us by His Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. 14. But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: NEITHER CAN HE KNOW THEM, because they are SPIRITUALLY DISCERNED.”
Now to our subject: “Our Loving Father in Heaven”
One of the purposes of the ministry of Jesus Christ was to reveal the Father. John 1:18 “no man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father; He hath declared Him.”
(As an aside, ONLY MALES CAN BEGET ; FEMALES CONCEIVE!)
John 5:17 “But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto , and I work.” (Read Ver. 18--22) “For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son: 23. That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent Him..”
You may or may not know, that the Father committed the actual CREATION ACTS to the Son:
Ephesians 3:9 “And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ.”
Hebrews 1:2 “Hath in these last days spoken unto us by His Son, whom He hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also He made the worlds.”
Colossians 1:16 “ For by Him (Christ) were all things created, that are in heaven, and in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by Him, and for Him.”
John 1:1 “In the beginning, was the Word (Christ), and the Word was with God (the Father), and the WORD WAS GOD.
3. All things were made by Him (the Word); and without Him was not any thing made that was made.
14. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld His glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.”
So no one had ever been in contact with God the Father before - not Moses, not Abraham, not anyone. Very few know this, but, the One who became Jesus Christ was the God of the Old Testament and was the One who brought Old Testament Israel out of Egypt. (I Cor. 10:4) and gave them His Laws on Mount Sinai. But the Laws, Statutes and Commandments that He gave were the same as God the Father gave him. Remember, Christ said He and His Father were one. In fact , one of the Names of Christ, as the Executive Agent who created everything, is The Everlasting Father! (Isa. 9:6)
Let’s look at a few Scriptures that show this special relationship:
I John 4:8 “ He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.”
What do you mean by “love”? Is this some sweet, syrupy or smarmy word that has no real meaning except to sound “religious”? No! REAL LOVE is expressed by ACTION! It’s an outgoing concern for the person or object, that it’s intended for or directed toward!
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, ----”
John 15:13 “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”
So we see that both the Father and the Son demonstrated their love by the action they took.
SO HOW DO WE DEMONSTRATE OUR LOVE TOWARD GOD?
John 14:15 “If you love me, keep my commandments, 21. He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.”
I John 2:4 “He that saith, I know Him, and keepeth not His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.”
I John 5:3 “For this is the love of God, that we keeep His commandments: and His commandments are not grievous.”
Logically then, the keeping of God’s commandments is to obey our loving Father in Heaven.
After all, He wants to give us eternal life, and to share the entire universe with His Son Jesus Christ!
Romans 8:11 “But if the Spirit of Him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, He that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by His Spirit that dwelleth in you. 14. For as many are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
15. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption (sonship), whereby we cry, Abba, Father.”
We read earlier in this same chapter, in Verse 16, “that we are the children of God.” and in Verse 17, “---heirs of God, and joint heirs with Christ; if so be we suffer with Him, -----”
Yes, we’ll suffer some trials, some tests along the way, but we can still know that a loving Father is allowing these things for our benefit.
Verse 18 “For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.”
Hebrews 12:1 “Where seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, 2. Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross (stake), despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
Now I want to briefly mention a being who has wanted to be a “father” of sorts. He expressed the intention of wanting to “--be like the most High”, in Isaiah 14:14.
He has wanted to be like God - be a “father”- and he has succeeded - in a way.
John 8:38 “I speak that which I have seen with my Father; and ye do that which ye have seen with your father.” Then these Jews tried to say Abraham was their father, but Jesus told them who their real father was: Verse 44 “You are of your father the devil, When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.”
Yes, Satan is an illegitimate “father”, and he has illegitimate “children”! They aren’t begotten by Satan, but they do follow his ways of religious deception! Like father, like children!
Now along these same methods of Satan’s deceptions is one of trying to get the world to follow a feminine God or goddess. Have you not noticed that in the Roman Catholic church; the main one in their worship and devotion is Mary, whom they pray to as “the Mother of God”? They seek “visions” and answers to their prayers from this “Holy Mother”! And this blasphemous deception is nothing more than rank Paganism, going all the way back to ancient Babylon and the “Queen of Heaven” or Nimrod’s wife Semiramis. (Jeremiah 7:17,18)
And how many times do we hear in modern times, the term: “mother nature”?
We worship a masculine Father God and His Son, Jesus Christ!
And we make no apologies about it! At the same time, we do not denigrate or put down women! Remember, we are all made in the image of God -male and female. And we all have the same opportunity to be born into the Family of God!
Galatians 3:28 “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.” (II Cor. 6:18).
There are many, many wonderful examples of Christian women given in the Bible:
We need to think often some of the promises that our loving “Father in Heaven” has given us!
Think about the forgiveness of our sins through the shed blood of His Son, that upon repentance and baptism we may receive the precious Gift of His Holy Spirit, that will enable us to overcome our carnal nature, understand Spiritual truths, understand prophecy and eventually obtain eternal life;
Gifts of healing when we’re sick: James. 5:14,15; (Psalms 103:2,3)
And of course there is so much more.
No wonder our Savior instructed us to pray to, “OUR FATHER IN HEAVEN”!
