As we may have learned from the time of our being called into or actually becoming a member of the true Church of God, offerings are commanded to be given on the Annual Holy Days. Exodus 23:14 “Three times (or seasons) thou shalt keep a feast unto Me in the year. 15. Thou shalt keep the feast of unleavened bread: (thou shalt eat unleavened bread seven days, as I commanded thee, in the time appointed of the month Abib; for in it thou camest out from Egypt: and none shall appear before me empty:) 16. And the feast of harvest (Pentecost), the firstfruits of your labors, which thou hast sown in the field: and the feast of ingathering (Tabernacles and including Trumpets and Atonement), which is in the end of the year, when thou hast gathered in thy labors out of the field.”
As this article is being written on The Day of Atonement, we are commanded to be empty stomached, but we are commanded to NOT BE EMPTY HANDED! God expects an offering from us on these Annual Sabbaths! Offerings are different from Tithes, which means a tenth of our earned income: Offerings are given above and beyond God’s commanded Tithe. Leviticus 27:30 “And all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land, or the fruit of the tree, is the LORD’s: It is Holy unto the LORD. 32. And concerning the Tithe of the herd, or of the flock, even of whatsoever passeth under the rod, the tenth shall be Holy unto the LORD.”
So God determines the amount of the Tithe: it’s 10% or one tenth..
BUT YOU CONTROL YOUR OFFERINGS TO GOD!
Jesus Christ may be trying your heart in this matter: Matthew 6:19 “Lay not up for yourselves treasure upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal. 20. But lay up for yourselves in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal. 21. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”
God knows our capacity for giving. If He knows the very hairs on your head, surely He knows your financial status and the financial problems of this nation. And He expect us to use wisdom, but at the same time having faith. Deuteronomy 16:17 “Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the LORD thy God which He hath given thee.” Notice this example of the returning Jews from captivity to restore the Temple of God: Ezra 2:68 “And some of the chief of the fathers, when they came to the house of the LORD which is at Jerusalem, OFFERED FREELY for the house of God to set it up in his place. 69. They gave after their ability unto the treasure of the work...
I believe these Scriptures give good basic guidelines in giving offerings. But you have control of the amount of your gift to God. That’s between you and Him.
