I’ve been thinking about our upcoming Pentecost weekend, just one week away, May 22 & 23. I hope you’ve had your mind on the same thing as well.
You may have had some questions about this occasion, as all of us have at times. I’ve got a couple that may arise, especially if you are rather new to God’s instructions about this matter.
No 1. WHY is this important for us to be present at this assembly?
Answer: It is a direct command from God to keep His FEAST DAYS, and this particular one of Pentecost is vital to our Spiritual growth and understanding, since it involves the Holy Spirit.
We must observe these days, FOREVER, if we expect to receive God’s reward of eternal life.
Leviticus 23: 14 “--- It shall be a statute forever throughout your generations in all your dwellings 15 And ye shall count unto you from the morrow after the Sabbath (weekly Sabbath during the days of unleavened Bread), from the day that ye brought the sheaf of the wave offering; seven Sabbaths shall be complete: 16 Even unto the morrow after the seventh Sabbath shall ye number fifty days---.”
In the New Testament they had to be present and waiting for the promise of the Holy Spirit or they wouldn’t have known HOW to receive it. Acts 2:38 “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye SHALL RECEIVE THE GIFT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.” Without this “Gift”, you can’t be saved: Rom.8:9 “---.Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of His.”
Question No. 2. WHY Lexington?
Answer: We must keep God’s Feast Days “in the place where He shall choose”
Deuteronomy 16:16 “Three times (seasons) in a year shall all thy males appear before the LORD thy God in the place which He shall choose; in the feast of unleavened bread, and in the feast of weeks (Pentecost), and in the feast of Tabernacles: and they shall not appear before the LORD empty.”
Does God thunder down his instructions in choosing a Feast site? No, that’s one of the functions of the ministry: Ephesians 4:4 “There is one body, and one Spirit, even as you are called in the hope of your calling; 5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 One God and Father of us all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. 7 But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ. 11 And He gave unto some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers. 12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, ---”
Yes, these type decisions must be thrust upon the ministry to insure (as much as possible) that things will be done in a decent and orderly fashion. You must be responsible in your actions! Hebrews 10:25 “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is;--- and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. 26 For if we sin willfully, after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, 27 But a certain fearful looking for of fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.”
Make no mistake, God expects us to observe His Holy Days and in the place He shall choose! Will you be observing Pentecost this year?
