Day Of Trumpets 2006

“Blow the horn, let Zion hear, for God’s day is now at hand;” are the opening words of a song from our Church hymnal of The Church of God New World Ministries. They were written by Mr. Dwight Armstrong, brother of Mr. Herbert W. Armstrong, founder of our parent church, the Worldwide Church of God. (They’re now both deceased.) What is the meaning of these lyrics? From where did they originate? Well, they come from the Book of Joel 2:1, in the Old Testament. But if you read from this source, it is a prophecy, a warning, of future events to occur in our day. So this day of blowing a trumpet “and sound an alarm in my holy mountain:” is for our modern world --especially Christians!

“Day of Trumpets”is a memorial

In the Christian Bible, beginning in the Old Testament, God gave certain annual Holy Days, along with His weekly Sabbath. Those days show an awesome Plan of God that reveal the ultimate salvation of all mankind. Without the observance and understanding of these days, the world at large is “left in the dark”, so to speak. Satan, the Devil has blinded this world (Rev.12:9), by obscuring this fact. The Day of Trumpets, along with six other Holy Days is God’s way to keep us in remembrance of that Plan. They are commanded to be kept as memorials during three seasons (times): (Leviticus 23:4; Deuteronomy 16:16). After observing what could be called the Spring festivals, which would include Passover and the “Days of Unleavened Bread. Next comes Pentecost, which depicts the harvest season of the first fruits. Now, after several months on the first day of the seventh month (in God’s calendar, not man’s), called Tishri, the fall season festival days begin. The first observance of this season is the Day of Trumpets. (Followed by “Atonement” and Feast of Tabernacles.)

This Day has tremendous meaning for Christians!

In our opening comments, you’ll remember, we read from the Book of Joel, chapter 2. Let’s continue in that Book to get the time setting of those prophesied events. Joel 2:1 “---for the day of the LORD cometh, for it is nigh at hand.” (Read about the awesome, terrible and earthshaking calamities going on in that day.!)

Verse 11 “And the LORD shall utter His voice before His army: for His camp is very great: for He is strong that executes His word: for the day of the LORD is great and very terrible;--”

“Trumpets” signifies the return of Jesus Christ to this earth. Without observing and understanding what this annual Holy Day represents, most will NOT recognize what is taking place when this occurs. Going on to the New Testament:

I Thessalonians 4:16 “For the Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first.” The Saints, Resurrected from the dead, to join Christ and to rule in His Kingdom!

Revelations 11:15 “And the seventh angel sounded (the last trump); and there were great voices in heaven, saying, the kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and He shall reign for ever and ever.”

Chapter 20:4 “And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them:-----and they lived and reigned (the saints) with Christ a thousand years.”

It is quite clear that the Day of Trumpets has monumental importance and significance to all of mankind. But it, of course, has special meaning to God’s people, converted members of the Church of God New World Ministries. Have a wonderful and meaningful Day of Trumpets!
