Weighed In The Balance And Found Wanting

This nation of ours, the United States of America, is being weighed in the balance and is found wanting. People would be stunned if they could really see the startling significance behind today’s world events.

It is time for America and God’s people to get their eyes opened to the staggering prophecies about the United States and our Western world, events that are going to happen in the next few years.

As the Book of Daniel tells us, “the hand writing is on the wall” for America and Great Britain and Europe now. This nation is being weighed in the balance and is found wanting. These prophecies have not been understood. They have been a deep mystery to this world. As we all know, even the prophet Daniel who wrote one of the important books of prophecy in the Bible didn’t understand all the prophecies that he wrote.

They say the feast of Belshazzar didn’t really happen, it is just a child’s story, but actually it is a last minute message straight from God to our peoples today. It is a message and warning dealing with our national life, with your home, your family, in the next few years.

This is a prophecy and a warning for us today, it‘s a staggering warning for now, for our time.

Approximately 1/3 of your Bible is prophecy. That is the neglected 1/3 that you seldom hear preached, and almost never read. And yet, that’s where we find tomorrow’s news headlines written in advance, and explained, their real meaning brought forth. Newspaper reporters, television reporters, people of science and people who deal with the economy, and the so-called smart people of this world can’t understand world events. Unless they can understand the Bible (and they don’t) they don’t have a clue as to what is being worked out here on this earth.

Belshazzar’s feast was not a message for that day only. Daniel wrote: “I heard, but I understood not. And then I said, O Lord what shall be the end of these things” (Daniel 12:8-9)? The angel told Daniel: “Go thy way, Daniel, for the words are closed and sealed till the time of the end.”

How many people that will be reading this article, will realize that the Jews were already in captivity when Daniel wrote this? This prophecy of the handwriting on the wall was not for them. It came too late to save them. They were in the land of Babylon, slaves, and captives. This prophecy was not for the Jews, it was for us, now, in our time.

So let’s take a look at what Daniel wrote about Belshazzar’s feast: “King Belshazzar gave a feast to a thousand of his lords. He was drinking his wine in front of a thousand of them, and when carried away with wine, Belshazzar gave orders for the gold and the silver vessels that were removed from the temple of Jerusalem by his father Nebuchadnezzar to be brought in so the kings and his lords, his consorts and his concubines, might drink out of them.”

Keep in mind; these vessels were sacred to Old Testament worship of the Most High Ruler of this entire universe.

“The gold and the silver vessels which had been removed from God’s house at Jerusalem were brought, and the king and his lords, his consorts and his concubines drank out of them. They drank their wine, and they praised their gods of gold and of silver, of iron and of wood, of bronze and of stone” (vs. 3-4).

What was wrong with what they were doing, was God jealous? Was God angry, did He have injured feelings? Was He mad at them? Let’s see if we can understand: When God first formed man, He created laws, not merely visible matter as we understand it. He created forces and energy. God created every law that we know, the laws of physics, the laws of chemistry, and they were created for our happiness.

God also created man in His image, in the very image of God. God put minds in man, it was a mind like God’s and yet, man’s mind is incomplete. Man was made to need something that he was created without, that you and I were not born with. Man was made to need contact with God Almighty, to need the very Spirit, the very nature of God, implanted, infused within our material mind.

The human mind is derived from matter, so the human mind can know and understand material things or material knowledge. The human mind can only known that which is transmitted to the mind through the five senses, so our minds are not perfect.

We need the guidance, the knowledge, the wisdom, the love and other attributes that come only with contact with the Great God Himself. The Ruler who controls every force, every energy, and every law that operates in this vast universe.

That is the lesson mankind has not learned. Nebuchadnezzar learned that lesson the hard way, and so did Belshazzar, but he had rejected it and put it out of his mind.

We have had 6,000 years of human experience, and man has proven he is incapable of governing himself.

God made man insufficient unto himself. God made the human mind fallible, imperfect, and incomplete. We were made to need the Spirit of God, and the thing is, God freely offered it to Adam and Eve. The Holy Spirit was symbolized by the “tree of life.”

But God also made man a free moral agent, and He told Adam and Eve to choose, life or death.  If they had chosen life, they would (and their offspring) would come under the government of God and enjoyed the blessings of that government.

God had revealed all of this to Adam. He had revealed this basic truth to His nation Israel, to Nebuchadnezzar and to Belshazzar.

Notice Deut, 5:32-33 “Be mindful, says God, to do what the Eternal your God has ordered you. Always follow the straight road to life which the Eternal your God has laid down before you that you may live and that things may go well with you.”

Isn’t that what we all want – “that things may go well with us”? That is what God’s laws are for, when are we going to wake up?

The first two commandments of God’s way of life guard against idolatry. Why? Because idolatry separates man from God, and man needs God and everything he can receive from God.

Belshazzar and the lords he had with him were mocking God. They were turning from God; they were turning from their own good, from the good of the whole nation they ruled. That is why God was concerned.

How about you? How about the United States of America and Britain, the peoples of Continental Europe and in South Africa, and around this world? Is God concerned with us and them?

Notice how God moved swiftly, even as He had in the life of Nebuchadnezzar, that men might learn the vital lesson, which we might learn in time today before our ways bring destruction on our nation. This warning came too late to save Belshazzar. This account was written for you and me today. It wasn’t written for the Jews of that day. We have time to escape the destruction that is now threatening us today, if we will just wake up!

Notice how the miracle-working God acted to bring saving knowledge at that time: “In the same hour came forth fingers of a man’s hand, and wrote over against the candlestick upon the plaster of the wall of the kings’ palace: and the king saw the part of the hand that wrote. Then the king’s countenance was changed, and his thoughts troubled him, so that the joints of his hips were loosed, and his knees knocked one against another.

The king cried aloud for the enchanters, the astrologers, to be brought in. But not one of the king’s sages could read the writing or explain the meaning of it to the king. At this, King Belshazzar was greatly perplexed. Then the queen mother came into the banquet hall, the queen mother said, “O king, live forever. Within your realm is a man wherein is the spirit of the god’s. In the days of your father, she said, king Nebuchadnezzar made him master of the magicians. Let Daniel be called, and he will explain the meaning of this.” (Dan. 5:5-12).

King Belshazzar offered Daniel gifts; he also would clothe him with scarlet and have a chain of gold about his neck.

Verses 18-30 give us the answer: “O thou king, the most High God gave Nebuchadnezzar thy father a kingdom and majesty and glory and honour.”

Daniel was showing that God is the Most High Ruler, He makes and unmakes nations. God is the One who reigns and who rules over the nations of this world, whether the governments of this world realizes or not.

We are free moral agents, up to a certain extent, God certainly allows us to go our own way, but when He chooses, He can intervene in the affairs of nations, and He does cause the rise and fall of nations.

God did seat Nebuchadnezzar upon a throne: “for the majesty that he gave him, all people, nations and languages, trembled and feared before him. But when his heart was lifted (just like Lucifer’s was) and his mind hardened in pride, he was disposed from his kingly throne. And they took his glory from him (v. 19). Nebuchadnezzar became like a wild beast.

Now notice verse 22: “And thou his son, O Belshazzar, hast not humbled thine heart though thou knew all this: But hast lifted up thyself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his house (the Temple) before thee, and thou, and thy lords, thy wives and thy concubines, have drunk wine in them; and thou hath  praised the gods of silver and gold, of brass, iron and wood and stone which see no,t nor hear, nor know.”

Here Daniel was showing that the true God has a perfect mind, all power; who sees, who knows, who directs things, who makes and unmakes nations.

Daniel told Belshazzar: “you have not glorified the God who holds in his own power your breath and your life and your entire destiny.”

How about us in God’s Church today, do we really realize that same God holds our very breath and our very life in His own power?

Now think about what you just read: Here were supposedly intelligent men, rulers over a world-ruling empire, forsaking and rejecting the living God whose help they needed. They were foolishly toasting and praising inanimate objects which could not see or speak and had no intelligence, things made by the hands of men.

Human beings have tried to create God, when actually God created us, and we need to wake up and realize that fact. In this dramatic incident, God is shaking man into realization that the Creator is the Supreme Ruler, of divine power, for our good. God hasn’t gone way off; God is vitally concerned with our welfare.

What happened to Belshazzar was that he had fallen into the illusion that grips mankind today. God has become unreal, He is so far off, and God is a myth. Just look at the minds of mankind today, where are they? On things that they can see, material objects, the things of materialism.

Do you see, a material mind knows only material things and God does seem like a myth, far off?

God ended that world ruling kingdom. God makes and unmakes nations and empires. God rules over all governments. And God, right now, in these last days, is weighting our modern Christen professing world in the balance and we are found wanting. We have rejected the Great God! Our focus is on material things!  Yes, we have been found wanting!

We are going the way of ancient Babylon. Today, we admire, we adore, and we serve idols of wood and metals in the form of automobiles, new gadgets, labor-saving devices, new forms of entertainment. We think of God for about one hour on Sunday, if we attend Sunday services at all. Notice what God says about modern Israel:

“Hear ye this, O house of Jacob, which are called by the name of the of Israel, and are come forth out of the waters of Judah, which swear by the name of the Lord, and make mention of the God of Israel, but not in truth, nor in righteousness” (Isa. 48:1).

Our lands are dotted with churches and yet as we read in Isaiah 2:7-8 this is certainly true for us today: “Their land is full of silver and gold, neither is there any end of their treasures, neither is there any end of the chariots. Their land is also full of idols, and they worship the work of their own hands, that which their own fingers have made.”

Does this fit our modern Christianity today? Don’t we practice a form of godliness, but as you read in II Tim. 4:5 “we deny the power of God?

Isa. 7:14 says: “We never put our hearts into our prayers.” Look how crime is mounting in our land. Juvenile delinquency is running rampant, homes are broken up in divorce, and we as a nation are hell-bent on an amoral toboggan slide. The majority have now approved and accepted same-sex marriages and the abominable practice of abortion.  Our nation is filled with liars and trucebreakers.

Are we any better than Belshazzar, are we any better than ancient Babylon? We are going the way of ancient Babylon, and we are going the way of Rome. We are headed for a fall!

This nation--our nation – the United States of American is plunging head on to the greatest fall that any nation has ever suffered and the sad thing is we are not even aware of it.

This nation is so smug and complacent, we are so well satisfied with ourselves, and we fancy that we are good Christians. We attend church; we sit there and imagine that we’re worshipping God while we hear some beautiful music and a 25 minute sermon. We leave services feeling satisfied that we have met our weekly obligation.  And yet, the messages do not bring about any changes in our materialistic minds!

IF we don’t wake up and come to our senses; an awakening from God Almighty is going to jolt this nation very soon. The Church of God New World Ministries is telling this nation, and the Church, on the authority of Jesus Christ. We’re going to be catastrophically punished and very soon for our own good, unless we wake up!

“And Babylon the glory of the kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldees shall be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah” (Isa. 13:19-20).  This prophecy was delivered before this happened to Babylon. This was before Judah’s captivity.

“It (that is Babylon) shall never be inhabited, neither shall it be dwelt in from generation to generation, neither, shall the Arabian pitch tent there. Neither shall the shepherds make their folds there” (v. 20).

This has absolutely happened; there is nothing but barren wastes over there now. For centuries the site of ancient Babylon has been totally desolate. Only ancient ruins remain. God said it would go down, it would be destroyed. And it would never be rebuilt again, and it hasn’t.

God spoke of Egypt when it was the greatest power, the greatest nation on earth, that it was going to be invaded and conquered, that Egypt would go down to a second rate power and that never again would it be ruled by a native-born Egyptian – that too has happened! Is Egypt a major world power today?  No, it receives billions of dollars in aid from the United States.

The Bible speaks of Rome. Even before it was built, God foretold its doom, its fall. There would be seven resurrections of the Roman Empire. Today, in our time, we are waiting for that final, seventh resurrection. But even worse, today, we are going the way of ancient Rome. They did not think Rome could fall, but it did! It fell because their focus became upon materialistic things, strife from within, complacency set in, overspending and greed permeated the society.  Do you see any familiarities with our society today?

There is protection for you if you will open your eyes to God’s prophecies, if you will study your Bible, if you will surrender your life to your Creator, if you will only come to Him in obedience in living faith through Jesus Christ.

The handwriting is upon the wall for the United States of America, it is time to wake up out of our deep sleep! Matthew 25 shows that at least half of the virgins (God’s true Church) will be asleep when Christ returns!  Our nation is asleep and God’s Church is asleep.  Wake up, the handwriting is on the wall!
