Most educated people today think of God in extremely vague terms. Do you know how you can prove that God exists; prove that He is a Real Spirit Personality?
Several years ago a group of college professors participated in a very lively discussion of religious matters. Most of them had PhD’s and other degrees after their names. They taught in some of America’s major universities and colleges. They belonged to different major Protestant denominations.
But they all had one thing very much in common. They didn’t believe in God as a real Spirit Personality who Rules this universe and to whom men are responsible for their actions.
When asked about it, one PhD summed it up this way: “Oh, I believe in a god, but not in a “father image” if that’s what you mean.” They all agreed that, to them, God is not a person but more of an “essence of good” or, perhaps, just a name by which to revere those things which seem right and good and beautiful to human beings.
With a flustered, excited, rising inflection in his voice, a leader of the group kept saying: “You can’t prove religion! You can’t be sure about religious matters. It’s all a matter of faith. It’s what you choose to believe, that’s all!”
To the minds of these highly educated college professors, there is no way of knowing whether God exists as a person or a “Father.” In like manner, there is no way of knowing whether one religion is RIGHT and another WRONG, or even whether one religion is better than another.
In fact, when briefly discussed one of the modern “mind science” cults which claim to incorporate the teachings of all the major religions into its own, yet denies the divinity and absolute authority of Jesus Christ. Some of these professing “Christian” educators said they would very easily accept the teaching of this “mind science” cult. Why?
Because very frankly, the “mind science” theory appealed to their intellectual vanity. It was vague on many points. It did not speak with authority! I It gave them a lot of room to “guess” and “postulate” ideas of their own , in short, to intellectually play at being God. It appealed to their vanity! Men resent the idea of a real God who has authority over our lives and can command us to obey His will!
Atheists and agnostics quite often accuse Christians of “creating God in their own image.” And in countless instances, this is absolutely true! In every nation, city, and family there are different human ideas of what God is like.
“My concept of God is a very personal and sacred thing to me,” many will say. Yes, their own personal, human, and in most instances, false concepts of God seems “sacred” to them. But is it?
Can man sanctify anything, make anything sacred and holy? Or is this the prerogative of God alone? All these question can be answered if you will prove to yourself and come to acknowledge the clear, consistent Biblical revelation of God, if you will believe and obey Jesus’ statement: “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every Word of God” (Matt. 4:4). And the Bible can be absolutely proved to be the very Word of God! For literally dozens of times God speaking in the first person says: “Thus saith the Lord,” and then proceeds to describe in specific detail the fate of huge cities and nations in a way that can’t possibly be misunderstood! Dozens of these specific prophecies have happened exactly as prophesied! Others dozens are now beginning to happen in exact detail, as described hundreds of years ago in the pages of your Bible!
If you really seek the true answers to the meaning of life, you need to exercise the intellectual honesty and spiritual courage to absolutely prove this to yourself! Read our articles: “Does God Really Exist,” and “The Bible Is It True.”
Once you have proved to yourself and fully believe that the Bible is the inspired revelation from God to man, you should fear to twist or pervert the natural intended meaning of Scripture, or to read into the Bible your own ideas and pet doctrines which are not actually contained therein.
The Holy Bible is the revealed Word of the Creator God. It is His message to man. It was written to show us the nature of God and how we should worship Him. Every Christian is commanded: “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needs not be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of Truth” *(II Tim. 2:13).
The real problem is, most people never get around to really studying and understanding the Bible! They hear sermons, talks and ideas of men about the Bible. They read books and articles of men about the Bible. But they seldom compare these scrupulously with the Bible, and even less often do they study the Bible directly themselves.
This is why there are so many human ideas of what God is like and how to worship Him. This is one reason why there are hundreds of different sects and denominations professing to be “Christian.”
Unless you accept the Biblical revelation of God you have no authoritative basis for any definite concept of your Creator. You are left in the darkness of human superstition and imagination! But with the Word of God as the firm basis of your convictions, you can discover the real nature of the true God. You can prove the truth of that belief by clearly seeing the definite and specific statements of God’s prophecies taking place before your very eyes! And you will learn that God makes definite promises in the Bible as well, and that He really answers prayer. You can put His way of life as revealed in the Bible to the test in your own life, and you will see that it brings definite and specific blessings.
This will give you each day new meaning and purpose, and it will change your entire concept of life!
In the Bible, God reveals Himself as the Supreme Ruler over men and over nations. Speaking to the intellectually vain and confused Greek philosophers of his day, the Apostle Paul revealed to them what the true God is like: “God that made the world and things therein and hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation” (Acts 17:2426).
It is God who has predetermined the rise and fall of great empires and nations. It is He who intervenes in circumstances occasionally to guide the course of human events in accordance with His plan and His purpose which stands pictured in the male gender and revealed as the Almighty, yet His perfect character is tempered with great love and mercy so that, “as the heaven is high about the earth, so great is His mercy toward them that fear Him.”
Now notice what the Bible says about God revealing Himself as Supreme Ruler over men and nations.
Prior to the calling of Moses, God had permitted His chosen people, Israel, to be in captivity for many generations. But during the ministry of His servant Moses, God purposed to show forth His supreme power and rulership in freeing Israel from their Egyptian bondage. God began to bring great supernatural plagues upon Egypt until they should free Israel. But Pharaoh refused to let Israel go because “the heart of Pharaoh was hardened, neither would he let Israel go” (Ex. 9:35).
Then the Lord said to Moses: “So go in unto Pharaoh: for I have hardened his heart, and the heart of his servants, that I might show these my signs before him: “And that thou mayest tell in the ears of thy sons, and of thy son’s sons, what things I have wrought in Egypt, and my signs which I have done among them; that ye may know that I am the Lord” (Ex. 10:1-2).
God was demonstrating His ruling power so that men might know that He is Lord, Master, Supreme Ruler over the affairs of this earth! He worked great miracles in the sight of Israel time and time again to teach them this lesson.
Generations later, God’s people were again in captivity, this time in Babylon. Once again, God revealed Himself in the sight of men as Supreme Ruler. God abused the King Nebuchadnezzar by causing him to become insane and to dwell among the wild beasts, “till he knew that the Most High God ruled in the kingdom of men, and that He appointed over it whomsoever He will” (Dan. 5:21).
Christians are supposed to believe in the God revealed by Jesus Christ. And the God of Jesus of Nazareth had very definite personality and characteristics. He was the Supreme Spirit Personality, the All-wise, All-powerful Being who rules over the heavens and the earth with direct power and control over the affairs of men to wield as he chooses in perfect love and wisdom.
Christ said: “No man has seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him” (John 1:18). Jesus Christ came to reveal the Father (Matt. 10:27). Above all else, Christ revealed God as the over-all Ruler of heaven and earth. He proclaimed that man was not to seek his own ways and devices but was to “live by every Word of God.” Jesus taught us to pray: ”Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth” (Luke 11:2).
Jesus continually taught obedience to the law and will of God. When a young man asked Him the way to inherit eternal life, Jesus answered: “If thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments” (Matt. 19:17).
Jesus continually prayed to God the Father as a definite spiritual personality having power to intervene in this world and heal the sick, raise the dead, and carry out His immutable Word.
Jesus said, “I go unto my Father, for my Father is greater than I” (John 14:28). Jesus surrendered His will so completely to the Father that His every thought and action was directed by the Holy Spirit. Thus, He could say: “He that hath seen me hath seen the Father” (John 14:9). Do you grasp the significance of this statement?
The nature and character of God was manifested so perfectly in the life of Jesus, that if the Father Himself should be manifested in the flesh as Jesus was, His thoughts and actions would have been exactly the same. Even when facing an agonizing death on the stake, Jesus prayed: “Not my will, but thine, be done” (Luke 22:42).
The true God revealed Himself through Moses, Daniel, all His prophets and Apostles, and through His own Son, as Creator and Supreme Ruler over heaven and earth, the One who makes and unmakes nations, the One who really answers prayer, the One who is working out a definite purpose among men here on earth! You need to come to know this God, the True God and Ruler who is right now intervening in human affairs and bringing about specific events in preparation for His coming Kingdom to be set up on this earth!
Paul was inspired to write a vital truth which applies to you. Study it carefully. “Know you not, that to whom you yield yourselves servants to obey, His servants you are to whom you obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness” (Rom. 6:16)?
When a choice has to be made between following the ways of your friends and family, or obeying what you have found in the Bible to be the revealed will of God, which course do you follow? Do you take the easy way out and follow men? Do you serve and thereby worship and obey the ways of men rather than the ways of God? Do you in this manner have another “god” before the true God who Rules this universe? Don’t “kid” yourself! For you can’t fool God!
You had better honestly consider these vital questions. You need to learn by self-examination whether you are serving a vague, nebulous “god” of your own devising and imagination, or whether you have come to know and serve the Living Governor who sits at the controls of this universe. The true God who reveals Himself in the Bible states: “Surely the Lord God will do nothing but He reveals His secret unto His servants the prophets” (Amos 3:7).
Are you willing to see and acknowledge the true God who Rules and is now intervening in human affairs? And very soon now you will be forced to acknowledge that God is “Real” that He lives and rules over this universe. For then, He will be arriving back in person as King of kings and Lord of lords (Rev. 19:11-16).
For your own good though, and for the good of your family and loved ones, in spite of pressure from this world’s God-rejecting society, you had better learn to know the true God and obey Him in this age that you may have His guidance and protection in the years just ahead!
When you learn some new point of truth from this website, or from our sermons, do you put it to practice in your life, do you obey it? Or do you reject it because it conflicts with what your church or your particular society believes and observes?
Are you like the Pharisees who rejected Jesus Christ because “they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God” (John 12:43)? God seems far away to some peo0ple, and their friends seem so close and so important. Which do you worship? Whose ways do you follow and obey?
Supreme Rulership is the chief characteristic of God we need to recognize in this day and age. It was the principal message of all His prophets and servants throughout history. It is very frankly the key to your future. Once you recognize God as your Ruler, and surrender unconditionally to His will through Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour and High Priest, then you may be assured of God’s protection and guidance in the perilous days that lie ahead.
But “lip service is” not enough! God requires obedience. “He that saith, I know Him, and keeps not His commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him” (I John 2:4).
As Jesus Christ prophesied (Matt. 24:14), this Gospel of the kingdom, the Rule of God, is being proclaimed as a witness” to all nations. As you come to recognize this as the very work of God and come to know the true God – yours is the solemn responsibility to accept or reject God’s final warning.
Once you have proved that the Bible is the direct revelation from the God who Rules, then discipline yourself to really study and obey what you find to be God’s will as revealed in the Bible, not the ideas or opinions of men. Become acquainted with the true God who gives commands and reveals a way of life, speaking in the first person, who gives specific prophecies affecting the major nations of the world and who reveals a definite purpose for your life!
We are here to serve you as the called servants of the Living God, the True God, the God who says what He means and means what He says in the Bible. Are you worshipping that God? Or, are you worshipping a god conjured up in the minds of men? Don’t you really want to worship the True God?
