We've Got A WORK to do!
Some time back, I ran into a former member of the Worldwide Church of God. And after the formalities of greeting one another, he began to "feel me out" as to how things were going with me in the group I was meeting with. I assured him everything was fine, that we were still rather small in number, but that we were still doing an effective work in preaching the Gospel. He then began to inform me that Mr. H.W. Armstrong had fulfilled, Matthew 24:14: "And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come."
He tried to convince me that Mr. Armstrong had totally completed this; and that part of the Work was completed. He then went on to try to prove his point by referring me to "Appendix 167" in the "Companion Bible", where they try to use Mt. 28: 18-20, in conjunction with the aforementioned Scripture to back up this idea. I immediately stopped his discourse, and firmly told him I did not agree with that conclusion at all! I then proceed to tell him why I believe we still have a Work to do (from the Scriptures). Of course I had to be brief as possible, due to the setting of the discussion. We can look into his "inspired" "Appendix 167" (I did), but we need to look to the Word of God to get the Truth. The "Companion Bible", Appendix 167, tries to explain three commissions given to the apostles. In the third one was the proclamation of the Kingdom of God. They made the statement about Mt.24:14, that "It is still wholly future in it's application." That is totally false, when you carefully read that verse. It shows it is to be preached just prior to the end of the age. If you've got eyes to see, you know we are living in that time frame.
Of Course, We've Got A WORK to do!
Now let's look at other Scriptures to see what that Work is. There would be many we could refer to, but I'll be brief and cover just a few. John 5:17 "But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work." What was the work that Christ was doing? Mark 1:14 "Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, 15. And saying, the time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye and believe the gospel." He began preaching the Gospel of the Kingdom of God! Paul preached that same Gospel: Acts 28:31 "Preaching the Kingdom of God, and teaching those things which concern the Lord Jesus …," ( I Pet. 2:21 ) Aren't we to follow His example ?
Along with preaching the Gospel of the Kingdom of God, comes a great responsibility of warning this world of the impending disasters to come upon sinning mankind, beginning with Israel. Isaiah 58:1 tells us we've got to "lift up our voice like a trumpet!" And we read in Ezekiel. 33:6 "But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow not the trumpet, and the people be not warned; if the sword come and take any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at the watchman’s hand." Certainly the blood will be on our heads if we refuse to do the Work of Almighty God. Also we read in Luke 12:43 "Blessed is that servant whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing." Doing what? Doing the Work of God! Preaching the Gospel of the Kingdom of God to all the world, as far as He will permit!
Don't be deceived by the clever arguments of men, even if they claim to be able to back up their claims with some "Bible helps". Stick to the Word of God and to the true doctrines of the Church of God, New World Ministries and you'll know that we've got A WORK to do, until God allows our part to end. There will come a time when total darkness will engulf this world, Amos 8:11 "Behold the days come, saith the LORD God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor of a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD:"
Meanwhile, while it is yet day, we've got A WORK TO DO!
