There are certain core beliefs in the “Christian” community of churches that are taken for granted. Most, if not all, believe that Jesus Christ was born on December 25, in the dead of winter ( which the Bible does not uphold in describing the time of the event ). Nearly all believe that He was resurrected from the tomb on Easter Sunday morning, after being slain on “good Friday”; I don’t know how they arrive at that, when He said plainly He would be in the grave for three days and three nights”, Matthew 12:40. The most you can get into that period of time is two nights and one day. But that’s another subject and I just wanted to point out how little people really know about God’s Word. I’m not condemning them, but all of us should be more studious of the Bible, so we might be able to: “and be ready always to give and answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you --.”I Pet. 3:15.
So today, I thought I might explain a statement from the Bible:
Philippians 2:7 “But made himself of no reputation, (From the “Companion Bible”, this means, “Emptied Himself” from the Gr. Kenoo.) and took upon Him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men.” 8. And being found in fashion as a man, He humbled Himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.”
So, exactly, what does this mean and what part would it play in our salvation? I feel it’s a very important subject and I hope to clarify this in your mind.
I have four brief areas on this subject, to give you a better understanding:
The whole Plan of God was discussed by the God-Head before the creation of the physical universe. As part of this divinely devised Plan, it would have to include:
I Peter 1:19 ( We were redeemed) “with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot. 20. Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world ---.” Revelation 13:8 “And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship Him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.” (I’m giving this in reverse order, to arrive at the subject of his conception.)
- the physical conception,
- the birth and the
- death of the Messiah, Jesus Christ.
Why did Jesus Christ have to “empty Himself” to become a human being? Why become flesh, in order to become our Savior, our High Priest and coming King over this earth? Couldn’t God have done it a different way? Since His “ways” are perfect, I don’t think so. Should we question God? Romans 9:20 “Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to Him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus?”
Out of necessity, Christ had to become a being that could die - that could shed blood for the forgiveness of our sins! Hebrews 9:15 “And for this cause He is the Mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance. 16. For where a testament is, there must be also of necessity be the death of the testator.”
How did He achieve this Divine transformation from God to man? God says it did happen!
John 1:1 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 10. He was in the world, and the world was made by Him, and the world knew Him not. 14. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld His glory, the glory of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.”
In this human form and state, He could now give His life as a total payment for the sins of all mankind. He had now “emptied Himself”, by becoming totally human, of His Divine Power and Glory!
When and How, did this process of becoming human begin? Of course: AT HIS CONCEPTION!
My friends, it seems to me that in the human scheme of things - the way that God designed human procreation, that Jesus Christ was transformed into a single cell spermatozoon to impregnate the virgin Mary, with the most Divine Miracle, that can ever be imagined! We believe that human life begins at conception and must therefore believe that this was the precise moment that He became flesh! Through the Power of the Holy Spirit, He thus had “emptied Himself.” (This is just another reason that abortion should be considered as murder.)
Don’t ever believe an atrocious, concocted, Satanic lie, that Jesus Christ was conceived by some artificial insemination or in some bizarre way was begotten by the Holy Spirit, which some erroneously believe to be a Personage of the God - Head, i.e. a member of a “Trinity”.
Jesus Christ began His human existence just as all humans do, but with no human father and conceived in a human female virgin, through and by the Power of the Holy Spirit.
