Monthly Letter - June-July 2013

01 July 2013

Greetings Everyone,

“Watch ye therefore and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape ‘all these things’ that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.” (Luke 21:36). Christ said to watch, but what are we to watch? Why “all these things”, of course! Christ outlined a series of events that would take place prior to his return. These events are found in Matthew 24, Mark 13 and Luke 21.

Those of you who have been associated with The Church of God for some time are familiar with the warnings that have been preached and taught regarding events leading up to Christ’s return. Some of you who are new to our teachings may not be so familiar.

To summarize, Christ said there would be false Christs who would come in his name preaching about him but denying the gospel he preached. (Mark 1:14-15) He said there would be wars and rumors of wars, famine, pestilence, disease epidemics unprecedented in human history and earthquakes in various places. He further mentioned religious persecution for His name sake. All these events will eventually lead up to the great tribulation. A time of unprecedented horror on the peoples of this world. Following the tribulation will be heavenly signs and then when God has had enough he will pour out his plagues upon those who still resist him. This is called in Biblical terminology, “The Day of the Lord”. And finally, when the last trumpet plague is poured out, Christ will triumphantly return to this earth. Christ said in Matthew 6:10 that we should pray for His Kingdom to come. I hope you all are praying that prayer.

Time nor space permits me to explain each of these horrendous events. However, we have many sermons and articles explaining, in detail, the events that are now taking place on this earth. (If you have access to the web I would encourage you to read our recently posted article, “The Abomination of Desolation”). We should not be shocked by these conditions because Christ, the prophets and apostles foretold these events many thousands of years ago. I just mentioned some of them in the books of Matthew, Mark and Luke. You should read these chapters and become familiar with the events because that is what Christ admonished us to watch — “All these things”!

There is one event I want to briefly focus on here as it is a turning point in Bible prophecy. That event is found in Matthew 24:37-39. Christ compared the last days prior to his coming to the days of Noah. Reading Genesis 6 we see that every imagination of man’s heart was evil. So it is today. Crime and evil are rampant. But he also said “they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark…” There is nothing wrong with marrying and giving in marriage but there is with marrying members of the same sex.

The Supreme Courts’ recent decision struck down part of the national Defense of Marriage Act, which defined marriage as between one man and one woman. This will no doubt open the door for future lawsuits which will eventually lead to the sanctioning of same sex marriages throughout the United States. This is an abomination to God. (Lev. 18:22) Isaiah was inspired to liken us to Sodom and Gomorrah. Read the first chapter of Isaiah in its entirety. Yes, this will be one of the “things to watch” as we go forward. Don’t buy into this “equal rights” thing. It is an abomination to God and this nation and its people will be punished severely for it.

I want to provide you with some information regarding this year’s Feast of Tabernacles. This year the Feast will be held at the Best Western Motel in Lexington, KY. My friends, I know you have heard this before, but personally I have never seen conditions in the United States of America as bad as they are now. No doubt, they will get worse. Perhaps we are in the beginning of sorrows now. But prophesy tells us that great tribulation is coming and, I believe, coming very soon. It all depends on God’s time schedule. Nevertheless, we should all be watching as never before and praying that we escape the soon coming tribulation. Please, get your spiritual house in order. Do not let “the thief” break in and rob you of eternal life.

Thank you all for your continued prayers and financial support.

Sincerely,
George Trent
