Bible Q & A

Q. I have sinned so many times in my life that I sometimes seem unsure about whether God can forgive me.

A. God not only can forgive sins, but He will even forget them (Heb. 10:17). He will remove transgressions from us “as far as the east is from the west” (Ps. 103:12).

Notice the example of the woman who was forgiven in Luke 7:37-48. “And behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner stood at his (Jesus’) feet and began to wash his feet with tears. Now when the Pharisees which had bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that touches him: for she is a sinner.” This woman was publicly known as a sinner. But Jesus forgave her completely. Verse 47 says, “Her sins, which are many, are forgiven.” The key was not how many or how few sins she had committed, but that she was in a humble, repentant attitude, deeply broken up about her life, and willing to change. Make no mistake, if you truly repent of your sins, God will forgive you!
