Church of God, New World Ministries

Monthly Letter - July-August 2009

July - August 2009

Greetings Everyone,

By the time you receive this letter the Feast of Tabernacles will be a little over a month away. This year, The Church of God New World Ministries will be observing the feast in Lexington, Kentucky. The feast will be held at The Best Western Motel on Athens-Boonesboro Road. I would like to dedicate the major portion of this letter to the feast. God says he is not the author of confusion, therefore proper planning will help us make this feast organized as God would have it.

Some have asked, “can I come to the feast with you if I attend another Church of God?” Of course, we are an “open arms” church and everyone is invited. After all, it is God’s Feast, not ours, God forbid we restrict anyone wanting to observe God’s laws from doing so. So, if you live in the vicinity of Lexington, Ky, or anywhere else, please feel free to attend if you choose.

We will have a registration booth open between the hours of 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM. on October 2nd. If you arrive early come in and register and pick up a Feast Brochure. The feast actually begins at sundown on October 2nd. We will be hosting a reception that evening in one of the motel’s meeting rooms. Refreshments will be served and all are invited to attend. The reception gives us an opportunity to renew old acquaintances and make new ones.

Services will begin Sabbath morning at 10:30 AM. Between services the Church is hosting a catered meal in the motel dining room. Afternoon services will begin at 2:30 PM. We will have one service each day thereafter, beginning at 10:30 AM. We will be conducting Sabbath School for our young people each day of the feast. Sabbath School will begin at 10:00 AM each day.

Since the feast is about giving and sharing, the Church hosts a Clothes Closet each year. We dedicate a room in which those who have good, clean used clothing donates the clothing for all to share. If you would like to contribute to the Clothes Closet please make sure the donations are clean and of good quality. If you have any questions contact Mrs. Patricia Haight.

One of the highlights of the feast is the Church Auction. We use the proceeds from the Auction to help defray the cost of the feast. If you would like to contribute, please plan to bring a gift or two. New items seem to go better than used ones. And please, limit the number of items you contribute. We would like to finish in a couple of hours. If it goes too long people become tired and could hinder their attendance in services the next day.

This year we plan to add a game/movie night. Popcorn and refreshments will be served.

The Church will host a picnic again this year. But, instead of outside, we will be hosting it inside the motel. Plan to bring along some games, guitars, etc. for fellowship after the meal.

Anyone wanting to be a part of the Church Choir should contact Mr. Joe Shuster. Mr. Shuster has asked that the choir dress in their customary black pants/skirts and white shirt or blouse.

If you know of anyone who will miss the feast this year because of sickness or other problems please let Ms. Jane Stephens know. Please provide their name and address for missing you cards.

I have tried to highlight as many activities as possible. As usual, we will have our Family Fun Show and a Friday night Bible Study. I would like to encourage as many of you as possible to attend the feast this year. We all need the “spiritual food” to nourish us through the coming year. From the looks of events happening in the world today it appears that the “beginning of sorrows” is certainly underway. Following the sorrows is Great Tribulation. The world is oblivious to these Biblical truths and will have to pay a tremendous price for rejecting God and His laws. But there is hope beyond tribulation and that is what this Feast represents. As Paul said, “by all means I must keep this feast,” and my friends, so must you.

We recently sent a DVD out via the Monthly DVD program titled “The Wave Sheath”. We had a couple of problems with the DVD. First of all it was spelled incorrectly, it should be “Wave Sheaf” not “Sheath”. Secondly, some have said they were not able to play it on their DVD machine. With this in mind, we would like to offer it via the Mail-in Request Card Program for those of you who could not play it. Simply click the button below and order it. We apologize for these discrepancies.

The parables say that many would be taken out of the Church because of the “cares of this world.” I recently did a sermon titled “Martha and Mary” relating to this subject. If you would like a copy, click the button below. Don’t let this happen to you! In closing, I would like to thank all those who contribute to this WORK. Because of your efforts we are reaching many thousands of people with the true gospel of Jesus Christ.

Sincerely,
George Trent
