Note to Parents: Please read to your children Exodus 12: 15 - 20, Leviticus 23: 6 - 8 and also Deuteronomy 16: 3 - 8, from your Bible to help them to understand this lesson.
Let’s learn about a festival that God wants us to keep for seven days called the Days of Unleavened Bread.
Let’s learn about the first two High Spring Holy Days. The first one is called the First Day of Unleavened Bread. Before you keep the First Day, you and your family should try to clean out your cabinets and pantry and your homes of all the breads, crackers, cakes and cookies and throw them away. Why, because they contain leavening. God tells us to have all of the leavening out of our homes during this time.
The lesson that God wants us to learn is to try to put sin, or wrong-doing, out of our lives. Leavening in the Bible stands for sin or wrong-doing. So when we get rid of the leavening out of our homes, it shows we are trying to get sin out of our lives. That is why we eat unleavened bread for seven days -- to show God we are trying to obey Him.
Then, we have another High Holy Day called the Last Day of Unleavened Bread. We go to church on these two high days.
So let’s remember about God’s lesson for the Days of Unleavened Bread and try to keep His Commandments!
